Michael Bladerer joined the Vienna State Opera in 1999 and the Philharmonic in 2002. He served as the Chairman of the Player’s Committee of the Vienna State Opera from 2015-2013 and was the Press Secretary of the Vienna Philharmonic from 2005-2009. He was elected to a 3-year term as General Manager of the Philharmonic in 2017.
Mr. Bladerer received his first instruction on piano at the age of 8 and on contrabass in 1981 at age 13. He studied at the Vienna College of Music and graduated with distinction. After winning first prize at the national Jugend musiziert competition in 1989, he has appeared as a soloist at home and abroad. He has recorded several CD and radio recordings and played numerous first performances of compositions by composers such as Balduin Sulzer, Wolfram Wagner und Ulrich Küchl. He served as the principal contrabass of the Komische Oper Berlin for 3 years. He also performs in the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle and several other chamber ensembles.
