phil_music for young people

The Vienna Philharmonic invites young audiences ages 12-18 to a 60-minute concert in a concert hall. They have specially designed and tailored a concert to give young listeners the opportunity to be inspired by the Vienna Philharmonic and classical music. No prior knowledge necessary. The students hear exciting excerpts from works from the core Philharmonic repertoire as well as from various other musical genres. The VPO musicians themselves moderate the event and offer a unique, very approachable insight into their professional life and their passion!

Opera Camps at the Salzburg Festival

In cooperation with the Salzburg Festival and the Salzburg Foundation of the American Austrian Foundation (AAF), the Vienna Philharmonic helps music-loving children and teenagers aged 9 to 17 become immersed in the world of opera and spend a week at Arenberg Castle together with artists and experienced teaching professionals. Here they engage with material from great operas and conclude the week by performing their own interpretations of the works in front of an audience, assisted by members of the Vienna Philharmonic.

The opera camps began in 2006 with the Magic Flute Camp. Since then, passwort:klassik has prepared more than 35 operas from different musical eras, such as Baroque, Classical, Romantique, Modern and Contemporary operas for the participants of the camps.

The experiences with musical theater and the interpersonal encounters that the camps provide represent a highlight of the children's summer vacation. This also lays the foundation for a love of musical theatre.

The Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy

The Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic promotes the training of young orchestral talent ages 18-28. For more than fifteen years, the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic has been held in Salzburg during the Salzburg Festival. Playing in an orchestra of the highest quality requires listening to each other, interacting with each other and having flexibility between the musicians - this is learned and sharpened in the musical work ranging from chamber music in small groups to the large orchestra within the framework of the Summer Academy.

Camerata Prima Vienna

The Vienna Philharmonic took over patronage of the Camerata Prima Vienna talent development program in November 2022. The program aims to support highly gifted Austrians and young talents studying in Austria between the ages of 13 and 19 on their way to a professional musical career and, in particular, to promote young orchestral talent.

In the Camerata Prima Vienna, these talented young musicians perform under the direction of Harald Krumpöck and Johannes Kostner (violinists of the Vienna Philharmonic). They participate in an intensive one-week music camp each summer followed by playing in various chamber music ensembles throughout the year, which are also led by members of the Vienna Philharmonic.
