“At age 14 I joined the Jeunesse Orchestra Salzburg and had the benefit of being taught by members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra for several years. My first summer with the orchestra is a particularly vivid memory: as a new member I practiced the 2nd violin part ahead of the first orchestra rehearsal, only to be assigned to the 1st violins by VPO’s then concertmaster Rainer Küchl. The following 2 weeks were some of the most challenging yet fulfilling days of my youth, getting a glimpse of the extraordinary high standards the members of VPO hold themselves to in order create that unique Viennese sound.” ~ Matthias Ederer, President, VPS
